Things to Come
The new school year is just around the corner and I would like to check in with everyone and make sure they are keeping up with their summer reading. Some of you may be done by now. We will plan on meeting the week of preplanning in order to get a jump start on the year. I hope to be able to address the faculty during our first meetings back, but will have to be added to the schedule. I also am going to try and address the entire PA with our plans and vision so that we will have communicated with all aspects of the school, with the exception of the students.
In other news, it sounds like Sandy and Jackie had a great time and learned many things at the conference in NC this past month.
Hope you are having a restful summer.

Well, it looks like we are finally adding a board member.
Mark Mosher has agreed to join the committee. I think he is an excellent addition to our group and look forward to getting a number of things accomplished this year.

Hello all! I'm really excited to join you in thinking and talking about classical education at WCA. I just wondered - where can I find the summer reading list?

Hey gang,
Just wanted to let you know that Cindy Young will be joining our committee. This should round out the committee as we now have representatives from all aspects of WCA. I am looking forward to a fruitful year this coming year as we will be driving this vision forward!!!

Conference
I'm looking forward to going to the conference. Is there anything in particular that you all want me to be focusing on? If you go to the ACCS website you can view a pdf of the conference lectures. There are a few I specifically want to attend but haven't make up my mind about all the sessions and would welcome your in put.
Thanks,
Sandy

Spelling Bee in People Magazine
My wife showed me an article about past winners of the national spelling bee and Irving Belz the winner from 1951 in his advice to young spellers says,
"Read a lot- and learn classical Greek and Latin"
Let's not mistake learning Latin and Greek with Classical Ed, but not at the same time downplay the importance of learning root languages to better knowing and understanding our own either. The first three words I think are even more valuable to our discussion. Read a lot- this is an important part of being a life long learner, one of the most important aspects of Classical Education!!
